The Birth of Bizim Ev In 1974, our grandfather was deeply upset when the coastal embankment where the family used to camp, enjoy water sports, and spend joyful days was demolished by the highway authority to build a road. In response, he came to the location where Bizim Ev now stands and decided to build a house here. Saying, “You won’t be able to run a road through this spot either!”, he began planning the structure as a symbol of resolve.

A visionary far ahead of his time, our grandfather started construction in 1974 and completed the house in 1975. Back then, Kaş was a small, undeveloped town; even basic building materials like nails, cement, and stone were scarce. All materials had to be transported by sea from Demre. Despite these challenges, the result was a remarkably distinctive and impressive structure for its era. Our grandmother—our grandfather’s life partner—spent many delightful years in this house. A wonderfully hospitable woman, she welcomed hundreds of guests here until her passing in 2007. After she passed away, the house fell quiet for a long time; no one came.

That is, until 2017, when Altan from our family suggested sharing this special place with others… The idea excited us all. And so began our journey to open our home to guests. Over time we developed and refined it, and it started to attract great interest. We have hosted many cherished guests here. One day, we asked a dear guest what we should name the house—his family was with us at the time. With a smile, he said: “We’re like family now… This is Our House.” Those words moved us so much that we decided to name our home “Bizim Ev”—which means “Our House.” This is how Bizim Ev was born: not just a building, but a memory, a sharing, and a bond.
